Catch Fire Day 23

Catch Fire Day 23     Acts 5:1-11                    Transparency

Ananias and Sapphira (husband and wife) sold their property and gave half of it to their church! Isn’t that amazing? If somebody do that in our church, I would say, “Hallellujah!”

However, the Bible reports us that they were condemned and died right there at church! Why? Just because they gave only half and not the full money? NO! Half was more than enough in terms of the amount of the money. They were condemned because they want to test the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:9).

They did not have to sell their property. However, they sold it because they saw what other people talked about Barnabas. He sold his property and brought the money and laid it at the apostle’s feet (Acts 4:36-37). People started praising him and talking about him. They respected him as a leader. Ananias and Sapphira became jealous! They wanted that respect also! So, they sold their property but their intention was not pure. So, they kept the half of the money and lied to the apostles that they gave everything to God!

It is OK to keep your money and your property to yourself. Just do not say that you have given up everything for God! God still loves you and people still respect you for all the little things you have done! Let us just be honest and say, “This is all I can do now!” Still we will say, You are just great!
