Psalm 120

Psalm 120

No court can save me!

When people lie about you, what can you do? You can sue the person for libel or slander. You can prove that you are not the kind of person that the slander describes. However, if the slanders control the court, there is no way for you to prove your innocence. People kept saying to Saul that David was ambitious and wanted to be a king. When King Saul did not believe in David, there was no other way. So, David had to pray to God for justice.

“In my distress I cry to the Lord, that he may answer me: ‘Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.’ What shall be given to you? And what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!”

I don’t want a fight.

David did not want a fight with the King Saul. So, he had to run away. He ran far away from his own people and from his home town. He had to go to a place where the King Saul could not have any influence. Meshech is modern day Turkey area and the tent of Kedar was used by the nomads. So David was far away from home and kept moving. David could find no friends. Only God can be his companion.

“Woe is me, that I am an alien in Meshech, that I must live among the tents of Kedar. Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.”
