Psalm 126

Psalm 126

God surprises us many times!

In our lives, we have such experiences that make us humble. We do not do anything to deserve such surprises but God allows them. For example, birth of our children was pure mystery and surprise. Where did they come from? What did we do? They are just God’s gifts. How about our spouses? How about our churches that we serve? They are all God’s surprise gifts! Now, the psalmist felt that same feeling when Israelites were allowed to return to Jerusalem!

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.”

Based on those experiences, we can be bold in hoping for future!

When we have such surprises more than once, we build up our faith in God. Faith comes sometimes as God’s gift instantaneously but sometimes comes to us gradually through our life experiences. When we build our faith on strong foundation based on our experiences, now we can build a house of hope for future. No strong storm can shake it and destroy it once it is built.

“Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the watercourses in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy! Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.”
