Psalm 131

Psalm 131

Do you feel that you are grown up?

Even though we trust God and rely on Him, sometimes we feel that we are now independent. There are things that we have to take care of ourselves. If we face some things that we cannot solve ourselves, we will cry out to God. However, there are many more things that we can handle with God-given wisdom and strength. We just know the difference between the things that we can do and things that we cannot do alone. The psalmist talks to God now as a “weaned child.” No more crying and no more complaints!

“O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things    too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.”

We do not have to be panic all the time.

If we are faithful to those small things that we can do with our own strength and wisdom, God will give us bigger tasks to handle. In that way, God uses us and trains us at the same time. We realize that those things once we felt so big are not big any more (like the elementary school that we visit after 20 years). Those big problems that we face now would be regarded as small issues later when we spiritually grow up! Then we can recommend to the whole nation to be calm in front of any crisis.

“O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time on and forevermore.”
